A state of physical well-being
A healthy body is one of the most important elements of happiness. Think about all your body does for you. It gets you around, lets you dance, laugh, sing, smile, exercise, make love and hold a sleeping baby. When your body is healthy you have the energy to work, play, cope with stress and enjoy relationships. When your body is sick, tired or out of shape even a simple task can seem overwhelming.
Our bodies want to be cared for, and tell us in both subtle and direct ways when we’re not doing a good job. Too often though we ignore the signs and let bad habits take over. If that’s happened, create a metaphor to help you visualize your physical being as something that’s special to you. Are you a luxury automobile or a sleek sports car? Maybe you’re a lush garden. Whatever your metaphor, think about how you would care for that possession and translate that into body care. Do you need a tune up? Are you getting enough sun, water and nourishment? Are you protecting yourself from harm? Create a plan and stick to it for at least three months. By focusing even a small part of your day on taking care of your body, you’ll find in time it takes little effort at all. In fact, once you know how good it feels to be healthy, you’ll never want to go back!
Our bodies are a gift and our health is a direct reflection of how much we value that gift. Even in the face of illness, when you do all you can for your body, it will do its best to take care of you.
